History

Founded in 1901 at the foot of the Ochil Hills, Alva Golf Club has been at the heart of the Hillfoots community for more than a century. Originally created after the Alva Holiday Resort Association recognised the growing popularity of golf among visitors to the town, the course was laid out on Longbank Park and officially opened on 2 January 1901 by Miss Caroline Johnstone of Alva House. Over the decades, the club has earned a reputation far beyond Clackmannanshire for its welcoming atmosphere, challenging undulating parkland course and proud tradition of volunteerism. From producing notable golfers such as Ryder Cup player Norman Wood and professional Frank Rennie, to hosting generations of local competitions and social events, Alva Golf Club has remained a treasured part of the town’s sporting and social life.
